Egypt T-bill auction, 16 August 2016: 364-day at 15.91%, up 9 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 16 August 2016, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 14.15% (up 6 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.40% (up 12 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.91% (up 9 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 34.0bn against EGP 15.5bn on offer, 219% of the amount sought, and EGP 15.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 12.13% to 15.95%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.94%, so the government is paying 397 basis points more than twelve months ago.
