Egypt T-bill auction, 5 August 2014: 364-day at 12.47%, up 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 5 August 2014, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 11.93% (up 2 basis points), the 182-day bill at 12.23% (up 128 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 12.47% (up 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 20.5bn against EGP 9.5bn on offer, 216% of the amount sought, and EGP 10.7bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.54% to 12.92%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.82%, so the government is paying 135 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
