Egypt T-bill auction, 1 September 2009: 364-day at 9.81%, down 1 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 1 September 2009, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 9.58% (down 5 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.81% (down 1 basis point). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 10.1bn against EGP 4.0bn on offer, 253% of the amount sought, and EGP 4.0bn was accepted.
At 9.81%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 37 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 12.84%, so the government is paying 303 basis points less than twelve months ago.
