Egypt T-bill auction, 18 August 2009: 364-day at 9.85%, unchanged
At the Treasury bill auction dated 18 August 2009, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 9.63% (down 26 basis points), the 182-day bill at 9.72% (down 6 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.85% (unchanged). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 14.1bn against EGP 5.5bn on offer, 256% of the amount sought, and EGP 5.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 9.85% to 14.80%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.96%, so the government is paying 211 basis points less than twelve months ago.
