Egypt T-bill auction, 18 March 2008: 364-day at 6.47%, up 13 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 18 March 2008, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 5.16% (up 26 basis points), the 182-day bill at 5.61% (up 31 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 6.47% (up 13 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 12.6bn against EGP 7.0bn on offer, 181% of the amount sought, and EGP 7.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 5.62% to 9.00%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.85%, so the government is paying 238 basis points less than twelve months ago.
