Egypt T-bill auction, 25 March 2008: 364-day at 7.10%, up 63 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 25 March 2008, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 5.73% (up 57 basis points), the 182-day bill at 7.84% (up 223 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 7.10% (up 63 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 7.8bn against EGP 7.0bn on offer, 112% of the amount sought, and EGP 5.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 5.62% to 9.00%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.86%, so the government is paying 176 basis points less than twelve months ago.
