Egypt T-bill auction, 23 May 2006: 364-day at 8.79%, unchanged

At the Treasury bill auction dated 23 May 2006, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 364-day bill at 8.79% (unchanged). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.

Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 2.1bn against EGP 1.0bn on offer, 208% of the amount sought, and EGP 1.0bn was accepted.

Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 8.08% to 10.04%.

A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.40%, so the government is paying 161 basis points less than twelve months ago.
