Egypt T-bill auction, 30 May 2006: 182-day at 8.70%, down 3 bps

At the Treasury bill auction dated 30 May 2006, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 182-day bill at 8.70% (down 3 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.

Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 2.7bn against EGP 1.5bn on offer, 183% of the amount sought, and EGP 1.5bn was accepted.

Over the past year the 182-day rate has ranged from 7.90% to 9.80%.

A year earlier the 182-day bill cleared at 9.85%, so the government is paying 115 basis points less than twelve months ago.
