Egypt T-bill auction, 16 May 2006: 364-day at 8.79%, up 7 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 16 May 2006, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 8.66% (up 4 basis points), the 182-day bill at 8.73% (up 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 8.79% (up 7 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 5.0bn against EGP 2.0bn on offer, 248% of the amount sought, and EGP 2.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 8.08% to 10.13%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.40%, so the government is paying 161 basis points less than twelve months ago.
