This is the price of money in Tanzania this week, from Afronomics.
At the latest Treasury bill auction, the government borrowed for one year at 6.3 percent, 19 basis points lower than the week before. The three-month bill cleared at 3.4 percent.
In plain terms: TZS 1,000,000 put into the one-year bill would earn about TZS 62,852 before tax over the year, roughly TZS 5,238 a month.
The Tanzanian shilling is at 2648 to the dollar, little changed.
Across Africa, the Afronomics Sovereign Bill Index, the average one-year rate in 10 markets, stands at 12.3 percent, down 7 basis points on the week.
The next Tanzania result is expected around Wednesday 7 October.
