Tanzania T-bill auction, 19 November 2025: 364-day at 6.35%, down 20 bps

At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 November 2025, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 5.69% (down 78 basis points), the 182-day bill at 5.87% (down 10 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 6.35% (down 20 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.

Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 440.0bn against TZS 155.0bn on offer, 284% of the amount sought, and TZS 155.0bn was accepted.

Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 5.61% to 12.99%.

A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 12.78%, so the government is paying 643 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put TZS 1,000,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back TZS 1,063,489 after 12 months: TZS 63,489 in interest before any withholding tax, about TZS 5,291 a month.

That is TZS 2,029 less than the same money would have earned at the previous auction.

For shorter money: TZS 29,336 on the 182-day bill (6 months), TZS 14,237 on the 91-day bill (3 months).

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Tanzania’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
