Tanzania T-bill auction, 24 April 2024: 364-day at 9.96%, down 85 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 24 April 2024, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 8.07% (down 7 basis points), the 182-day bill at 8.45% (down 12 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.96% (down 85 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 261.8bn against TZS 83.9bn on offer, 312% of the amount sought, and TZS 77.3bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 6.74% to 12.30%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 6.56%, so the government is paying 339 basis points more than twelve months ago.
