Tanzania T-bill auction, 8 February 2023: 364-day at 7.20%, up 4 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 8 February 2023, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.00% (up 35 basis points), the 182-day bill at 5.23% (up 63 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 7.20% (up 4 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 368.2bn against TZS 167.0bn on offer, 220% of the amount sought, and TZS 246.8bn was accepted.
At 7.20%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 23 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 5.02%, so the government is paying 217 basis points more than twelve months ago.
