Tanzania T-bill auction, 18 January 2023: 364-day at 7.15%, up 60 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 18 January 2023, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 3.65% (up 65 basis points), the 182-day bill at 4.60% (up 43 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 7.15% (up 60 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 266.2bn against TZS 167.0bn on offer, 159% of the amount sought, and TZS 229.8bn was accepted.
At 7.15%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 24 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 5.10%, so the government is paying 205 basis points more than twelve months ago.
