Tanzania T-bill auction, 31 March 2021: 364-day at 5.98%, up 1 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 31 March 2021, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 3.30% (up 80 basis points), the 182-day bill at 3.72% (up 116 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 5.98% (up 1 basis point). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 138.0bn against TZS 75.7bn on offer, 182% of the amount sought, and TZS 92.0bn was accepted.
At 5.98%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 23 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 5.06%, so the government is paying 93 basis points more than twelve months ago.
