Tanzania T-bill auction, 30 October 2019: 364-day at 6.33%, down 21 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 30 October 2019, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.30% (down 10 basis points), the 182-day bill at 4.60% (down 29 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 6.33% (down 21 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 299.4bn against TZS 106.2bn on offer, 282% of the amount sought, and TZS 104.5bn was accepted.
At 6.33%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.07%, so the government is paying 175 basis points less than twelve months ago.
