Tanzania T-bill auction, 3 April 2019: 364-day at 9.08%, down 6 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 3 April 2019, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.05% (up 19 basis points), the 182-day bill at 5.32% (up 20 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.08% (down 6 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 230.8bn against TZS 140.0bn on offer, 165% of the amount sought, and TZS 138.2bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 4.12% to 9.35%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 5.12%, so the government is paying 396 basis points more than twelve months ago.
