Tanzania T-bill auction, 5 September 2018: 364-day at 8.07%, down 9 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 5 September 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 2.98% (up 5 basis points), the 182-day bill at 5.10% (down 23 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.07% (down 9 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 372.5bn against TZS 140.0bn on offer, 266% of the amount sought, and TZS 140.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 4.12% to 11.21%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.96%, so the government is paying 389 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put TZS 1,000,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back TZS 1,080,725 after 12 months: TZS 80,725 in interest before any withholding tax, about TZS 6,727 a month.
