Tanzania T-bill auction, 25 July 2018: 364-day at 7.97%, up 68 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 25 July 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 2.90% (up 5 basis points), the 182-day bill at 4.97% (up 229 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 7.97% (up 68 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 110.4bn against TZS 140.0bn on offer, 79% of the amount sought, and TZS 82.6bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 4.12% to 11.96%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 9.32%, so the government is paying 135 basis points less than twelve months ago.
