Tanzania T-bill auction, 16 November 2016: 364-day at 15.86%, down 26 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 16 November 2016, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 7.23% (down 27 basis points), the 182-day bill at 14.95% (down 16 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.86% (down 26 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 258.6bn against TZS 138.0bn on offer, 187% of the amount sought, and TZS 138.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 15.07% to 18.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 17.70%, so the government is paying 184 basis points less than twelve months ago.
