Tanzania T-bill auction, 19 October 2016: 364-day at 16.33%, up 36 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 October 2016, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 7.50% (down 2 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.46% (down 10 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 16.33% (up 36 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled TZS 191.1bn against TZS 138.5bn on offer, 138% of the amount sought, and TZS 138.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 15.07% to 18.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.99%, so the government is paying 134 basis points more than twelve months ago.
