Tanzania T-bill auction, 7 September 2016: 364-day at 15.84%, down 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 7 September 2016, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 7.42% (down 4 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.42% (down 26 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.84% (down 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 213.1bn against TZS 137.0bn on offer, 156% of the amount sought, and TZS 179.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 14.56% to 18.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.34%, so the government is paying 150 basis points more than twelve months ago.
