Tanzania T-bill auction, 23 March 2016: 364-day at 17.32%, down 102 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 23 March 2016, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 8.24% (down 70 basis points), the 182-day bill at 16.76% (down 64 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 17.32% (down 102 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 386.2bn against TZS 132.0bn on offer, 293% of the amount sought, and TZS 179.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.20% to 18.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.33%, so the government is paying 699 basis points more than twelve months ago.
