Tanzania T-bill auction, 9 March 2016: 364-day at 18.34%, down 62 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 9 March 2016, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 8.94% (unchanged), the 182-day bill at 17.40% (down 39 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 18.34% (down 62 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 349.2bn against TZS 132.0bn on offer, 265% of the amount sought, and TZS 127.1bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 9.71% to 18.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.90%, so the government is paying 644 basis points more than twelve months ago.
