Tanzania T-bill auction, 4 November 2015: 364-day at 17.70%, up 173 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 4 November 2015, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 10.02% (down 1 basis point), the 182-day bill at 16.09% (up 96 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 17.70% (up 173 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled TZS 190.5bn against TZS 132.0bn on offer, 144% of the amount sought, and TZS 182.4bn was accepted.
At 17.70%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 25 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.96%, so the government is paying 374 basis points more than twelve months ago.
