Tanzania T-bill auction, 25 March 2015: 364-day at 9.71%, down 62 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 25 March 2015, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 6.63% (down 97 basis points), the 182-day bill at 8.99% (down 22 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.71% (down 62 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 315.3bn against TZS 132.0bn on offer, 239% of the amount sought, and TZS 247.0bn was accepted.
At 9.71%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 25 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.46%, so the government is paying 375 basis points less than twelve months ago.
