Tanzania T-bill auction, 21 May 2014: 364-day at 13.13%, down 7 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 21 May 2014, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 10.95% (down 103 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.04% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 13.13% (down 7 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 214.3bn against TZS 130.0bn on offer, 165% of the amount sought, and TZS 189.7bn was accepted.
At 13.13%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.26%, so the government is paying 113 basis points less than twelve months ago.
