Tanzania T-bill auction, 7 May 2014: 364-day at 13.20%, down 13 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 7 May 2014, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 11.98% (down 19 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.04% (down 21 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 13.20% (down 13 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 414.6bn against TZS 132.0bn on offer, 314% of the amount sought, and TZS 132.0bn was accepted.
At 13.20%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.28%, so the government is paying 108 basis points less than twelve months ago.
