Egypt T-bill auction, 3 September 2024: 364-day at 26.24%, unchanged
At the Treasury bill auction dated 3 September 2024, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 29.75% (up 13 basis points), the 182-day bill at 29.04% (up 18 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 26.24% (unchanged). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 267.8bn against EGP 100.0bn on offer, 268% of the amount sought, and EGP 87.4bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 25.54% to 32.30%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 25.21%, so the government is paying 103 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
