Egypt T-bill auction, 26 March 2024: 364-day at 28.25%, down 189 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 26 March 2024, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 25.60% (down 223 basis points), the 182-day bill at 27.72% (down 219 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 28.25% (down 189 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 450.3bn against EGP 85.0bn on offer, 530% of the amount sought, and EGP 133.6bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 22.68% to 32.30%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 22.58%, so the government is paying 568 basis points more than twelve months ago.

For shorter money: EGP 13,861 on the 182-day bill (6 months), EGP 6,399 on the 91-day bill (3 months).
The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
