Egypt T-bill auction, 12 March 2024: 364-day at 32.30%, up 239 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 12 March 2024, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 30.20% (up 252 basis points), the 182-day bill at 31.84% (up 335 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 32.30% (up 239 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 412.5bn against EGP 85.0bn on offer, 485% of the amount sought, and EGP 127.1bn was accepted.
At 32.30%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 22.59%, so the government is paying 971 basis points more than twelve months ago.
