Egypt T-bill auction, 19 July 2022: 364-day at 15.75%, up 14 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 July 2022, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 15.65% (up 9 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.49% (down 2 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.75% (up 14 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 63.8bn against EGP 45.0bn on offer, 142% of the amount sought, and EGP 26.6bn was accepted.
At 15.75%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.28%, so the government is paying 247 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
