Egypt T-bill auction, 18 January 2022: 364-day at 13.21%, down 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 18 January 2022, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 11.33% (up 2 basis points), the 182-day bill at 12.06% (down 3 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 13.21% (down 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 73.3bn against EGP 21.5bn on offer, 341% of the amount sought, and EGP 46.3bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 12.99% to 13.38%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 12.87%, so the government is paying 34 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
