Egypt T-bill auction, 19 October 2021: 364-day at 13.16%, up 5 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 October 2021, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 12.38% (up 5 basis points), the 182-day bill at 12.60% (up 4 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 13.16% (up 5 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 66.6bn against EGP 21.5bn on offer, 310% of the amount sought, and EGP 42.4bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 12.67% to 13.68%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.44%, so the government is paying 28 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
