Egypt T-bill auction, 1 October 2019: 364-day at 15.37%, up 45 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 1 October 2019, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 15.61% (down 2 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.76% (up 19 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.37% (up 45 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 47.9bn against EGP 28.3bn on offer, 170% of the amount sought, and EGP 26.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 14.92% to 19.98%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 19.44%, so the government is paying 407 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
