Egypt T-bill auction, 13 November 2018: 364-day at 19.78%, unchanged
At the Treasury bill auction dated 13 November 2018, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 19.36% (down 6 basis points), the 182-day bill at 19.68% (down 7 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 19.78% (unchanged). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 50.4bn against EGP 28.8bn on offer, 175% of the amount sought, and EGP 35.4bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 16.43% to 19.88%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 17.65%, so the government is paying 213 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
