Egypt T-bill auction, 15 May 2018: 364-day at 17.80%, up 78 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 15 May 2018, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 18.13% (up 65 basis points), the 182-day bill at 18.54% (up 111 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 17.80% (up 78 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 32.1bn against EGP 23.3bn on offer, 138% of the amount sought, and EGP 9.6bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 16.43% to 21.99%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 19.05%, so the government is paying 125 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
