Egypt T-bill auction, 1 May 2018: 364-day at 16.93%, up 9 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 1 May 2018, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 17.45% (down 20 basis points), the 182-day bill at 17.40% (down 12 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 16.93% (up 9 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 48.0bn against EGP 21.8bn on offer, 221% of the amount sought, and EGP 25.4bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 16.43% to 21.99%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 19.03%, so the government is paying 211 basis points less than twelve months ago.
