Egypt T-bill auction, 24 April 2018: 364-day at 16.84%, up 7 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 24 April 2018, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 17.65% (down 17 basis points), the 182-day bill at 17.52% (down 2 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 16.84% (up 7 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 54.4bn against EGP 22.5bn on offer, 242% of the amount sought, and EGP 23.2bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 16.43% to 21.99%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 19.14%, so the government is paying 230 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
