Egypt T-bill auction, 15 August 2017: 364-day at 18.70%, down 64 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 15 August 2017, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 19.08% (down 5 basis points), the 182-day bill at 18.83% (down 74 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 18.70% (down 64 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 39.5bn against EGP 22.0bn on offer, 180% of the amount sought, and EGP 26.9bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 15.96% to 21.99%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.82%, so the government is paying 288 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
