Egypt T-bill auction, 20 September 2016: 364-day at 16.41%, up 31 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 20 September 2016, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 14.92% (up 1 basis point), the 182-day bill at 15.76% (up 16 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 16.41% (up 31 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 20.6bn against EGP 17.3bn on offer, 119% of the amount sought, and EGP 12.8bn was accepted.
At 16.41%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.94%, so the government is paying 448 basis points more than twelve months ago.
