Egypt T-bill auction, 9 September 2014: 364-day at 12.41%, up 10 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 9 September 2014, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 11.77% (down 2 basis points), the 182-day bill at 12.09% (up 10 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 12.41% (up 10 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 21.4bn against EGP 9.5bn on offer, 225% of the amount sought, and EGP 9.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.54% to 12.47%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 12.78%, so the government is paying 37 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
