Egypt T-bill auction, 15 July 2014: 364-day at 11.16%, up 8 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 15 July 2014, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 10.78% (up 3 basis points), the 182-day bill at 10.98% (up 5 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.16% (up 8 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 20.8bn against EGP 9.0bn on offer, 231% of the amount sought, and EGP 9.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.54% to 14.01%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.61%, so the government is paying 345 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
