Egypt T-bill auction, 31 December 2013: 364-day at 11.21%, down 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 31 December 2013, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 10.53% (down 4 basis points), the 182-day bill at 10.88% (up 7 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.21% (down 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 16.6bn against EGP 7.0bn on offer, 238% of the amount sought, and EGP 6.9bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.54% to 15.41%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.54%, so the government is paying 233 basis points less than twelve months ago.
