Egypt T-bill auction, 24 December 2013: 364-day at 11.23%, up 28 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 24 December 2013, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 10.57% (up 22 basis points), the 182-day bill at 10.81% (up 23 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.23% (up 28 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 18.6bn against EGP 8.5bn on offer, 219% of the amount sought, and EGP 8.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.54% to 15.41%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.62%, so the government is paying 239 basis points less than twelve months ago.
