Egypt T-bill auction, 31 January 2012: 364-day at 15.87%, up 9 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 31 January 2012, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 182-day bill at 14.92% (up 21 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.87% (up 9 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 8.8bn against EGP 7.0bn on offer, 125% of the amount sought, and EGP 1.1bn was accepted.
At 15.87%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 48 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.59%, so the government is paying 528 basis points more than twelve months ago.
