Egypt T-bill auction, 29 November 2011: 364-day at 14.93%, up 21 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 29 November 2011, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 14.26% (up 77 basis points), the 182-day bill at 14.65% (up 67 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 14.93% (up 21 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 9.0bn against EGP 7.5bn on offer, 121% of the amount sought, and EGP 4.2bn was accepted.
At 14.93%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 47 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.43%, so the government is paying 450 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
