Egypt T-bill auction, 26 January 2010: 364-day at 11.33%, down 14 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 26 January 2010, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 9.71% (down 28 basis points), the 182-day bill at 10.42% (up 11 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.33% (down 14 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 13.7bn against EGP 5.0bn on offer, 274% of the amount sought, and EGP 5.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 9.72% to 11.66%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.46%, so the government is paying 13 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 111,330 after 12 months: EGP 11,330 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 944 a month.
