Egypt T-bill auction, 4 August 2009: 364-day at 10.33%, down 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 4 August 2009, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 9.89% (down 29 basis points), the 182-day bill at 9.78% (down 47 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 10.33% (down 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 13.4bn against EGP 6.0bn on offer, 224% of the amount sought, and EGP 6.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.25% to 14.80%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.59%, so the government is paying 126 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 110,330 after 12 months: EGP 10,330 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 861 a month.
