Egypt T-bill auction, 12 May 2009: 91-day at 10.43%, up 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 12 May 2009, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 10.43% (up 2 basis points) and the 182-day bill at 10.48% (down 6 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 7.6bn against EGP 4.0bn on offer, 189% of the amount sought, and EGP 4.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 91-day rate has ranged from 9.21% to 14.03%.
A year earlier the 91-day bill cleared at 5.87%, so the government is paying 456 basis points more than twelve months ago.
